My Journey Cloth Diapering A Newborn - AppleCheeks

I have lots of experience cloth diapering but cloth diapering a newborn - none! With that said, I give birth to large babies with both of my boys being over 10lbs, so I was skeptical of buying anything for my 3rd boy because I doubted we would need the smaller size.  I did buy a few newborn diapers and regular diapers for the fun of it. When he was born at 37 weeks and 9 lbs 12 oz I was still worried about the diapers I had fitting him correctly.

Unfortunately due to being in the NICU wearing cloth just wasn't the easy option with having to weigh the diapers before and after. But I'm proud to say his first diaper was cloth. His second cloth diaper was a size 1 AppleCheeks diaper with a 2 pli insert. Let me say the fit was amazing!!!

This is Isaac sporting a size 1 Delicious envelope cover. I trifolded the 2 pli insert and laid it on top. I could've got the diaper a little bit more snug but I was nervous with his umbilical cord. New mommy jitters! :)

Here is my little wiggle worm in a size 1 Limited Edition Orange Zest - here is a tissue for that drool! :) Yes the color is absolutely gorgeous. If you can ever get your hands on one - get it!

This is the fit that looked best on Isaac. He has very skinny legs. My husband calls them chicken legs. :) He is also approximately 9lbs here. The waist is snug but comfortable and the legs are tight enough to not cause leaks but also not cause indentions from being so snug.

One thing I loved about the AppleCheeks is that it didn't rub or irritate his umbilical cord. I could fit the diaper a little higher in the back and it wouldn't hit the area. Another thing a lot of people don't know about AppleCheeks is the amazing elastic in the diapers. You simply pull the sides to "stretch" out the elastic to get a fabulous fit without it cutting into your babies legs. Here is a video to demonstrate.

Overall I would definitely recommend and purchase AppleCheeks size 1 diapers for a newborn. Not only did I get a fabulous fit but the diaper will grow with the baby much longer then the newborn stage. When my little man is ready for a size 2 I can simply purchase the larger envelope cover and reuse the 2 pli insert!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing! I have two size 2s that I have stashed away, and I always thought that newborn size diapers weren't really worth it because of how quickly the little ones grow out of them. I just figured we'd go with a bunch of pre-folds and one-size covers, but now I might be rethinking this. Maybe I should invest in a few size 1 ACs.

  2. LOVED our size 1 ACs. The fit was awesome and they are so trim compared to other dipes. LOVE them! We're on size 2 now at 5 months :)
